Meredith Odom, Gourd Artist

Gourd artist Meredith odom

For years Meredith has been visiting New Mexico, where she developed a deep appreciation for Native American history and art. In September 2005 she realized her dream and moved to Santa Fe, which is where she saw her first gourd art about eight years ago. Over the years, Meredith has utilized many different Native American themes with gourds. Most recently, she has begun to focus primarily on themes taken from the portraits of legendary Indian chiefs and warriors of the Southwest and the Northern plains. Each piece is a unique portrayal, using only natural materials and adornments; no two are alike. She has incorporated many different techniques such as wood-burning, leather and ink dyes, jewel and stone inlays, various kinds of antlers, feathers, African porcupine quills and horsehair.

Meredith participates in the annual Eldorado Open Studio Tour and various art shows on the Plaza in Santa Fe. Her work can also be seen at Cowgirl Red in Madrid, NM (www.cowgirlred.com), Salon of the Painted Horse in Santa Fe (www.salonofthepaintedhorse.com) and Healing Crosses Gallery in Galisteo, NM. Prior to moving to Santa Fe, Meredith lived in San Diego where she participated in the annual Welburn International Gourd Art Festival in Fallbrook, California (www.welburngourdfarm.com ) and the Circle of Art Festival in Borrego Springs, California.

When she’s not working on her art, you can find Meredith either hiking with her dogs or out riding her horse, Buckshot.
